Do I need grinding before an overlay? +

In most cases, yes. If the existing surface is structurally sound but oxidized or cracked, milling the top 1.5"–2" creates a fresh bonding surface and ensures the overlay has consistent thickness. Without it, overlays are prone to delamination.

What happens to the milled asphalt? +

Milled asphalt (RAP — Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement) is collected and hauled to a recycling facility where it's reprocessed into new asphalt mix. It's one of the most sustainable aspects of asphalt paving.
